History

Coastal ClayMakers formed in 2003 when a group of students were about to complete their TAFE ceramics course. They wanted to stay connected with other clay enthusiasts, sharing skills and enjoying clay camaraderie. Their enthusiasm drew in other potters from Coffs Harbour and surrounding area, including Nambucca, Kempsey, Bellingen, Dorrigo and Woolgoolga.

The group was officially launched in January 2003 by  Trisha Dean, the then editor of Pottery in Australia (now the Journal of Australian Ceramics). Trisha then presented our first two-day weekend workshop, Exploring Glazes, which successfully set the scene for a multitude of diverse workshops held since then.
